Do you have a shy, clingy toddler who just will not break loose from mommy’s leg? Do you want to help encourage your child to be more social, and outgoing? We have some tips for you to help encourage your child to overcome the shyness that they are experiencing. Tip #1 - Give it some time. Tip #2 - Withdraw criticism. Tip #3 - Be their cheerleader. Give them credit for their effort, from picking up a few blocks when cleaning up to eating all their green veggies at supper. We are the only parents our children will ever have, be positive and help them to break through their barrier of shyness by building their confidence. As you can see the most important thing that you can do as a parent to help your child to overcome shyness is to be positive, encouraging and understanding. You might not remember it, but you may have been a shy toddler yourself. If your parents are still living talk to them about your childhood and see how they handled the situation. They might even have some wise counsel for you. No matter what be there for your child and help them through this important time in their young life. |
